from the perspective of an intermediate level player....
I find the majority of my checkerplay errors are in the first 6 to 8 moves of the game, which really underscores my need to learn to analyze and understand openings. And of course, i find myself swimming upstream very often, when i make mistakes in the opening.
I have so much to learn about all aspects of the game, that it's really quite easy to learn and make improvements. Openings, and learning how to use the cube are my two largest deficits right now, and i can see that it is also the focus of much of the discussion here on this list.
Nacbracs/Nactation seem to have survived a substantial period of time, and probably represent the only systematic approach to studying opening play, short of trying to memorize optimal play for all match scores/situations. I haven't learned to use Nactation yet, but i'm quite certain, that i'll be tackling it in the next few months.
There are a lot of talented and highly intelligent players on this discussion list. I would be very interested to understand different approaches to playing a strong opening game.
Thanks in advance, Scotty
