a.) Strictly speaking, it's in contravention of US tournament rules, specifically this clause:
1.5 AIDS. Once a match is in progress, players shall not use written, mechanical, or electronic aids except to keep score.
This may seem like an arbitrary prohibition, but consider the potential for cheaters to scribble coded notes containing pip-counts, match equities etc.
First of all, I would only hand record a match played on a clock.
If I want to hand record a match and my opponent objects, citing 1.5, then no problem. I'll put the pen and paper away. Then, I'm going to enforce every last ticky-tack rule in the book.
and the facility to convert positions from images and video is high up on my todo list.
I really don't know how possible this truly is, but if it can be done, I would find it really awesome.
or hire somebody to transcribe all your matches on your behalf.
How rich do you think I am? I'll give you a hint: I have a job in education. Game over. =)
