In Response To: 2 Cube Max $$ Strategy (Daniel Murphy)

Is it theoretically impossible to construct a game which ends on a centered cube without any non-optional doubles at any point?

I see that there must be at least one point in such a game, where the side on roll has market losing two-roll sequences without having any roll that loses the opponent's market, and I used to believe that that condition was sufficient for the double to be non-optional, but I thought about it today and could not find a proof. On the contrary, if opponent has an (optional) double after the first roll of every possible market losing two-roll sequence, the double for the side on roll should still be optional. Is that possible?
