I think people may attend backgammon tournaments for the social aspect or a slew of other reasons but I find it hard to say that anyone enters a match with the objective of doing anything but their best to win. That is their goal. Whether they slide off course widely along the way is something else altogether.

I don't get what people aren't understanding vis-à-vis me sharing this article. My big point was to point out the obvious that all of us know. We shouldn't be doing anything detrimental to our game during the match whether it be complaining about the dice, focusing on your bad luck, etc... Just because we inherently know this to be true doesn't mean that being reminded of it doesn't help.
