Golf world ranking system is founded on average points

I don't necessarily agree, Bob. The current ABT system has each tournament being assigned one point per person entered. A 64 player field awards 64 total points. A 12 player field awards 12 points. The average points/person awarded is 1.00 for both tournaments.
Using what I espouse, I would accord more points to high prestige/higher quality fields, but they would be harder to win because of the higher quality field that gets attracted to them.
The system used in professional golf is explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_World_Golf_Ranking It's become very convoluted, but it's all founded on average points. It's also been modified many times as debate rages. I would expect that any backgammon world system we develop would similarly undergo such evolution.
