2 types of tournaments?

How about this?
Make only 2 types of tournaments - 'normal' tournament and 'Grand Slam' tournament.
Every tournament that wants to be part of the world series pays 'registration fee' - normal tournaments pay smaller fee (for example, 200 euro/usd), Grand Slams pay high fee (for example, 5000 euro/usd). Every TD can decide if his tournament is normal or Grand Slam, and pay accordingly.
Collected money (this would be transparent as there will be a calendar for 'world events' and everybody could calculate how much money has been collected) is payed at the end of the season/year to the best 10 players according to the rating.Every tournament of the world series is counted for world rating.
Grand Slams would have (much) more points than normal tournaments, of course.Depending on the number of tournaments in the world series, there would be a limit at how many results count towards rating. (For example, 10 best results of every player count for world rating)
This way, even some small and/or local tournaments could be part of the world series (if they decide to pay a fee), together with Nordic, Monte Carlo, Japan Open and others (I suppose they would be interested to have 'Grand Slam' title).
It doesn't matter if players pay for entry fee 10 or 100 or 1000 euro/usd; importance of a tournament would depend only on fee payed by a tournament for world rating. (If you can pay high fee for a 'Grand Slam' title, while having only 10 euro entry fee - so be it!)Players that play only locally would feel as a part of something big, and maybe they would travel little bit more to have a better world rating.
And players who travel a lot would have an opportunity to see a tournament calendar at the start of the year/season so they can decide to which tournaments to travel.
Their advantage would be to have an opportunity to improve their rating if they travel to more than 10 tournaments (or whatever is the limit for counting results) in one year/season; but this advantage is not as big as it would been if there's no limit, so even players who don't travel a lot would have a chance to have a decent rating at the end of the year.
Thanks for reading. Now let's hear why this idea isn't going to work :)
