Tournament Resignation Rule

In Response To: Tournament Resignation Rule (Dmitriy Obukhov)

As Tom mentioned, you are always free to default your match.

The tougher question is if you only want to resign for that specific game. Suppose you are trying to save time because the tournament is running late and you have a flight to catch. You are leading 2-away-5-away, centered cube, with one man closed out on the bar. You are willing to resign a gammon for the sake of speeding things along, and your opponent is willing to accept, since he gains about 8% MWC from such a generous proposition. However, the director is watching, and informs you that you are not even allowed to resign a backgammon (!) because there is contact left.

So instead, you reason that resigning for gammon will leave you at 2-away, 3-away and you propose to hedge the match 60/40. Your opponent agrees, at which point you promptly default, split the prize money, and catch your flight.
