Why use the doubling cube?
I have played backgammon and it's variants (mostly the variants) for many years without ever gambling a single penny or using the doubling cube. I wonder why backgammon is considered a gambling game when it is so fun to play without money. Acey Deucey, French, Dutch, Greek, and Narde all are great fun yet whenever I search for backgammon on the internet it's all about the cube and gambling. In fact, the only game I do not play on the backgammon board is the one most played. I find that starting from the tray is much more exciting and allows for more flexibility and greater variation of strategy.
