Missing dollar

Vaguely reminds me of a (very) old puzzle.

Three men check into a hotel, pay $10 each, and head to their separate rooms. The clerk/owner, later remembering his three-for-25 special, hands the bellboy $5 and asks him to return it to his guests. However, the bellboy, less honest than his employer, gives back the men only $1 each.

So, the men paid $9 each, and the bellboy kept $2, which comes to only $29. What happened to the missing dollar?
