No, this was my first thought too, but I checked and this isn't possible even with misplays. See Ray Kershaw's post.

There's no solution to this puzzle using "first-order rules" so it must hinge on "second-order rules" (like how to handle illegal plays) or some kind of externality (e.g., the death scenario that Stick ruled out).
