To set the record straight, Stick gets the credit for being first to post this rule (though I did discover the concept independently).

I acknowledge the three exceptions 31P-44P-63, 31P-44P-64 and 54S-44P-61, and to that list you can add 43S-44P-61. However, please note that that the intended scope of the rule (both in Stick's wording and mine) is limited to third roll (not fourth roll) plays.

Your observation is correct that the "rule" holds more rigidly with 55P than with 44P.
