Impossible Ruling

Here is where you and I have a slight disagreement. I believe that since you are expected to do everything you can to win within the rules, and since there are rules that give you the option to take advantage of your opponent's illegal moves, you therefore are supposed to take advantage of them when they occur.
People who believe strongly that we should not be playing legal moves argue that they should not be put into a position of having to help their opponent play properly. If the opponent moves 6-5 and hits your checker along the way, and the hit is forced, and he forgets the pick up the checker, according to proponents of non-legal moves, that checker should not be put on the bar. They also believe that just because they have the option of correcting the other player's blunder doesn't mean at all that they should...in fact, they believe it is wrong to help your opponent do something that would hurt your own game.
In my opinion, they are correct. If I am playing to win and the rules allow me to do something that helps me win, I should do that.
This is just one of the many reasons I prefer legal moves...so I am not put in a position of having to decide whether to be a good sport or being a fierce competitor that is trying to win in spite of my opponent's illegal plays.
