I agree with everything Stick says here, particularly the risk / benefit equation where employing XG guidance -- whether on all moves or just cube decisions (which I think would be the most effective cheat) -- doesn't give you anything like a sure win, which makes it a bad gambit when the cost of discovery is exile.

Technologically, it would seem we're at least one step short of having to worry about this, which is a "position recognition" algorithm that converts a photo to an actual BG position in XG. I'm actually a little surprised this hasn't been done already -- backgammon boards being so vividly schematic (circles and triangles on a symmetrical 24-pt field?).

It's important not to allow fear -- of cheaters or terrorists or random acts of nature -- to lead us into joyless measures that confer negligible real benefits of safety.
