In Response To: False Cube Action (Art Grater)

Last weekend I went to an awesome and fun private tournament at Brent and Brenda Cohen's house in NE Philly.

Brent cubes this guy. (This guy who beat my husband and then made it to finals with Brent, and he smoked like a chimney, so already I dont like him, but that's besides the point.) This guy PICKS UP THE CUBE and starts bringing it over to the area where he is about to place it, and Brent prematurely starts to pick up his dice and drop them into his dice scrambler. Then the guy starts to say stuff like..."I didnt say drop". Brent is like, yeah that's right because you were picking up the cube and dropping it into your area where the cube goes and then I roll and the game continues. Well, this guy acted like he never heard of such a thing and they discussed (argued) about it for at least 5 minutes until Brent decided to ask me to rule on this. LOL!!! I was next to them the whole time streaming Brent's matches. And, during all this time, that guy is handling the cube, in the air, with his hands. He tried to tell me that he picked up the cube to "think about it." I said no. you touch the cube and bring it over to your side of the board, whether it hovers over your corner or not, you have taken that cube. I cited the "capricious handling of the cube rule" and then I got on FB and asked a few people what the rule is.

Let me also expain that this was the first possible chance that Brent could cube Post Crawford. So the guy snatched but hovered while Brent too quickly grabbed the dice to roll. I did explain to Brent that he should not be speed grabbing/rolling, which he acknowledged and agreed.

Long story short, did I rule accurately? I think so. That guy w/ the hovering cube took that cube. There is no need to handle the cube when one is thinking. You touch, you take. UNLESS you touch the cube to bring it over to the middle as you state that you are "dropping" or "passing". yes? Needless to say "that guy" does not go to ABT events.
