Make a ruling-- what if there were more checkers / where to draw the line?

What about 1 checker on each home point? (6 left for each player) 1 on the 1-4 points? (The play is so SUPER clear, no player would make the mistake - they all are but this one most so) 8 checkers left? 10? 11? (2 on each home board point, except the 6)?

Where is the cut-off? What situations are specifically accounted for?
