I agree that they're two separate issues; however, in this case I feel that part of the underlying problem is that XG has taken away manual control of the specification of a position. As I recall, GNU has in general moved towards taking away manual control, and I don't regard that as progress.

I can see that there is a philosophical argument for taking away manual control, which is to prevent the user from shooting himself in the foot, but in that case, XG should take it a step further and (for example) cause the cube to disappear when you click on the Crawford button.

The inability to have more than 32 candidates moves at once is another XG feature that I occasionally find bothersome. Sometimes I'll switch over to GNU just to be able to run all the plays (which can be in the hundreds) through 2-ply to minimize the chance of some candidate getting overlooked.
