Because XG plays slightly better, does rollouts eXtremely much faster, and is priced at $59.95.

This is pretty much spot on. I would also add that the user interface in XG is better than GnuBg's.

That said, I am a big fan of GnuBg. I often play practice games with GnuBg while XG is running rollouts. I know I could open a second instance of XG, but my experience is that XG is not as repsonsive as it should be when another instance is running a rollout. This has been my experience even when I use the Windows Task Manager to lower the priority of the instance which is running the rollout. GnuBg also has a few features that XG does not, for example, the EPC estimator under Race Theory.

The neural nets used in GnuBg version 1.02 are excellent. I use a truncated rollout in GnuBg that mimics XGR++. The two programs rarely disagree on a play. Very rarely.
