PR against XG vs. live PR

In Response To: PR against XG vs. live PR (David Presser)

I doubt that there will be universal multiplier that applies to most people. MCG, for instance, insists that your PR measures your understanding of the game and that there won't be a systematic difference between your online and live PR. I believe that "live PR = online PR" holds for MCG but I don't believe that it holds in general, just as I don't believe your claim that "live PR > online PR" holds in general.

In addition to the differences between online and live play that you mentioned, here are two other potentially important factors:

1. In online play, the pip count is usually displayed. Sure, good players can count pips, but having the pip count displayed makes a difference. When I play XG, I always turn the pip count off, to train myself to play without a pip count available. There are many times that I have made gross blunders that I would have been very unlikely to have made with the pip count on: either I miscounted the pips, or I was negligent and didn't bother to count pips when I really should have.

2. There is often more at stake in live play. Some people play better when there is more at stake, while others play worse. This varies widely from person to person.
