At the risk of damaging my reputation, Telemarketers (Phil Ivey, Mike Matasow(SP?) and a few other top players came from phone rooms).

It's not a coincidence. When you're selling on the phone you learn how to paint a picture and project yourself in a very specific manner to sell a deal. Winning a pot is very similar. How you're perceived by who you're playing often determines the outcome.

Sure there are pot odd, number of out's, value bets blah blah blah. If you can "Sell" everyone that your holding shit when you have quad aces-you win. Id you got the stones to buy a pot(Gus Hanson) you win. and everyone here i'm sure knows Gus is a bright guy. He aint trading hours for dollars.

I like this topic and i dont play poker, but I WAS a telemarketer-best in the biz. Never lied to people, never got into trouble(serious trouble). I signed a negotiated consent decree with the FTC in 98-08(never violated it). Its public record. The laws changed, so I'm not a telemarketer anymore as i never broke the law when I was. Carries a bad stigma(is that the rite word?). In any case its all been over for years now.
