Stick and Timothy Chow both have great points and they are very well expressed.

Having lived in Vegas and been a pool room bum for many years of my life I have been around LOTS of poker players, Tournament and cash game players. It's been my empirical observation that it is possible for some people to make a living playing poker playing in both. I have also seen many people who "think" they are poker players who are "Couch surfers" meaning they sleep on whoever's couch they can because they are broke.

Poker is a interesting game, who ever is the best liar gets the $$. When you're strong, act weak, when you're weak act strong. Its a game based on deception, that is a skill. Ask any good lawyer.
