Here's a paragraph related to counting out loud that appeared recently at chicagopoint.com:

"Deutsch (White) rolled a weak 3-2 entering on the 2-point and playing 4/7 with the 3. Ray verbally analyzed the position out loud, bring up all the hitting and double hitting numbers before cubing. Aware that a gammon loss would cost him the match, Deutsch passed."

If there were a rule against counting out loud or talking about the position out loud when it's your turn, watching a match involving the current ABT points leader wouldn't be as much fun.
