Is it worse to cheat with a bot in chess than in backgammon?

I think you can look at how much damage done to other players, to answer this. If someone is using an engine (bot) in chess, he improves his winning chances by a whole a lot more than in backgammon.

I know cases when high ranked chess players were cheating online (for rating points?!) and got caught, but no actions were taken against them.
