First, you're the one who defined what 'significantly outplay' or 'non trivial margin' was. Being a 51/49 favorite in 15 point matches or longer to me for a future bot is no grand improvement. As others have pointed out there are many ways this could happen. The main ideas I had in mind when answering where a much expanded database where users added rolled out positions and play according to opponent. This as a group effort would eventually and potentially add a decent amount I think. Not only a third and fourth roll database but an insane amount of 'common positions' could be added esp. if the bot was known on its lower level (3ply/XGR) to misevaluate that type of position.

Second, personally I don't get hung up on Play A beating Play B by a specified amount out to the third or fourth digit. I care if a play is correct over a certain margin, unlikely to be changed, or simply that it is correct. We'd be foolish not to listen to the advice of clearly the best player in the world. Just because in the future we can see that there is almost certainly a significant improvement to be found doesn't mean we shouldn't praise and generally accept everything that is spit out by our current god assuming that god is already at a super high level. It's not like we're bowing to the feet of Jellyfish, we know the significant inroads that have been made over the years and that XG may not be perfect but it's pretty mf fantastic!

It's like asking anyone who is the best in the world their opinion of some situation and how they would treat it. In the future maybe there will be advancements in whatever it is they do, does that mean we should really be as skeptical as you seem to want to be about what their answer is now?
