In Response To: Here's what I don't understand (Stick)

For whatever my opinion is worth (not much, I concede), I agree with Tom Keith that future bots will beat XG2 by much more than 51%-49% in 15-point matches – I just threw the 51% out there to start the discussion.

And yes, XG2 is the underlying source of most of the best backgammon information available at the moment, and it is sensible to act accordingly on this information – no one suggested otherwise. But, to pick one high-profile example, to use XG vs. XG rollouts to generate (and copyright!) a MET with values like 25.64% and 40.05% -- this is not, in my opinion, an appropriate, or valid, use of this information. The bot isn’t near that good, and we know it. I also feel that, when Weather Underground (check their website and you will see) concludes that there is a 27% chance of rain three days from now, between 3 PM an 5 PM, dropping to 12% between 5 PM and 6 PM, this is likewise not a legitimate use of what is arguably the best weather data available. The fact that forecast data indicates a chance of rain in the afternoon three days from now – that is information; The notion that forecast data indicates a 12% chance of rain at 5 PM three days from now – this is baloney, masquerading as information.
