Hitting two is tempting, but seems awfully loose to leave three homeboard blots. Granted, there are nine numbers that miss all three checkers, but with 25 that hit whatever blitz is on the horizon will be stopped in its tracks.

Plus, I'm not seeing anything that looks good enough to pass up making the five point. So, after 8/5 it's a choice of 6/1* or 8/3* (13/8 is too cautious AtS) The question is whether slotting the three instead of the ace is worth the additional blot and additional return shots. Not sure, but I like the more positional 8/3*, and with white's non-existent board and gammon losses not counting I think it's at least sound.
