I read somewhere (so it must be true) that "lowly 1-ply" XG still plays its checkers under 2 PR, and would soundly beat any human player in the long run. And, to the extent XG 1-ply is a weaker checker player than XG++, I would bet (without any supporting evidence. admittedly) that its GG playing skill is still phenomenally good, especially compared to that of any human player.
