After making the minor split, what are you planning to do? You have a few more rolls than before to make a better anchor, but otherwise you are probably going to leave them hanging and maybe getting attacked while you try to do something up front to contain his back man. So I guess 24/18 has to be better, if only because it annoys your opponent more by making a grab for a stronger defensive anchor stat. He may have to leave return shots to stop you, and if you hit one, you might turn the game in your favor.

Why not 13/7 6/5 instead of either, with the game plan being to try very hard to keep the little watermelon seed from squirting away? 10 in the Zone, very well arranged, might be enough to get that done. You will also be building a board or block that might win for you with the cube if he has to leave shots on his side, and you bag a second checker.
