Bill Davis ran a side event like this at CSI right up to the last year they had it, and also in the events that preceded CSI "back in the day". Because there were so many more men than women, the men had to be over a certain age, which I think was 50 or 55. The matches were short, so it didn't eat too much of the tournament schedule.

I thought it was silly, more sideshow than side event, but it's not as though there were ABT points or any colossal amount of money involved. The winner did get a trophy--would you display it if you won it?

I certainly would not recommend this as your main format for a tourney, especially if there is a points race. Let the draw be random, and let people learn from playing people of all kinds, all the time.
