In the proposed tournament, suppose all the men are PR 4.0. And all the women are 5.0. (Maybe I should say "each".) Then a man has to play against 4's while a woman competes against 5's.

Not unfair to the man because he IS a 4. If he gets into the final, THEN he gets the chance to play a 5. So the equity difference for both genders simply moves from the left side of the board to the right side.

In the final of the proposed event, a 5.0 woman has to face a 4.0 man. Is that unfair?
