Women and men tournament brackets; meet in finals

From what I have seen firsthand and learned through hearsay (e.g., news, internet sites, other players), it seems fair to say that backgammon tournament participation tends to be male-tilted, sometimes heavily so.
I run one of our local groups (www.MiamiBackgammon.com), where we are fortunate to have a fairly good percentage turnout of women players. For example, this week we had 10 players in the tournament, 4 were women.
I am thinking that whenever we have as many or more women than men in a tournament we should have a men's bracket and a women's bracket, with the respective winners playing in the finals. We would still do the consolation bracket, possibly also split by gender.
What do y'all think?
