Playoff with three finalists

For either a drawsheet with 24 (or 48...) players, or a Swiss, it is possible to get down to a 3-player playoff for a title. What do you think is a fair way to resolve the tournament? Let's also stipulate a time constraint, so repeated round robins are not possible. Here is the solution I like, but what do you think?

Randomly draw for a first round bye. The winner of the first round match is paid 1/3 of the prize money. The winner then plays the third player for the other 2/3 of the money.

The two players that have to play an extra round have equity: 50% of 1/3 + 25% of 2/3 = 1/3.
The player that gets the bye has equity: 50% of 2/3 = 1/3
