The thing is that, even though we may not be consciously trying to cheat, we might unconsciously be doing so. My observations, and that of others I know are that the majority of illegal moves are in the movers favour. Unconsciously we see the dice number or play that we want to see, and make an illegal play.

Banning tentative moves, or agreeing with our opponent that we will not allow them, reduces the opportunity for the subconscious to guide us into making a favourable illegal play.
