one could reasonably argue that such exactitude in checker movement greatly reduces the chances of dispute, but I fear that it would be met with resistance and lax enforcement

Maybe the rules could spell out best practices for checker movement but leave it up to your opponent to decide how strictly he wants to enforce them.

moving a builder from the midpoint and sliding a builder on the eight point to the bar in one movement

I don't think you should do this. (Which is to say, I think your opponent should be able to ask you not to do it if he finds it confusing.)
