Frank Raposa vs. Roberto Litzenberger

34th Annual Chicago Open Backgammon Tournament
Main Event
Round 5, 9-point match
2014-May-24

Full Match at YouTube • Direct link to illegal move at 6:02

Roberto Litzenberger made an illegal move in his match yesterday against Frank Raposa. In a tournament where the rules required “legal moves,” neither player noticed the error, and it went uncorrected. While playing a 11, Roberto inadvertently bumped Frank’s checker on the 22pt back to the 23pt. The accidental play favored Roberto because at its new location Frank’s checker was blocked by Roberto’s made 8pt. Frank suffered doubly because his next roll would have allowed him to anchor on the 22pt. Instead he left blots on the 22pt and 23pt, where Roberto attacked on the following roll.
