I wasn't referring to baffle boxes but to the rudeness of reaching for, let alone grabbing, the dice off the board before you have punched the clock.

As for baffle boxes, my policy is that they are by mutual agreement only UNLESS one of the players is not shaking the dice properly in the opinion of the director in which case the director can impose a baffle box.

It is a two-way street- I think it would help a lot if tournament directors made an announcement prior to the tournament start about proper etiquette (shake properly, don't grab at the dice early, one hand only for checkers, same hand for the clock as the checkers, etc.), but as a player you also have to be willing to stick up for yourself if your opponent is not observing the rules. Any director worth his salt is not going to perceive you as a nitpicker if you stick up for your rights to have the rules followed, and if any player takes offense at being asked to follow the rules, well they might not be altogether missed should they find another hobby.
