The bye problem. I don't think players should be either rewarded or punished for receiving a bye. That may be impossible to the n'th decimal point but I'm thinking my approximation is better than the current. I may change my mind when I see all the responses, though.

What you're worrying about is a second order effect, so don't worry about it. The first order stuff is taken care of -- ensuring that nobody gets a second bye before everybody has had one.
