Better Recognition for the Streaming Staff long

First off, let me say that I agree that those responsible for live streaming deserve more credit. It's a big responsibility, resources are scarce, and subject to lots of comments. Be thankful for those people who step into the jaws of the tiger to provide entertainment for those at home.
"It's not as though these people watching the BG streams are suffering from a paralyzing vitamin deficiency or some sort of basic literacy deficit that the streaming is providing them so that they can participate in the world of social commerce. "
Please don't make assumptions like this. I know a local backgammon afficionado who joins backgammon online so he can socialize. He suffers from a stress disorder that prevents him from leaving his house for weeks at a time. Three years ago, he was a highly competent individual working in a 'safety critical' position with an extremely high level of responsibility for public safety. Today, he struggles with simple tasks, such as making a pot of coffee. I know for a fact that he has made generous contributions to FIBS, donated to Mochy's camp for kids, and made modest donations to USBGF and to Japan for live streaming.
That being said, the reality is that some form of social or economic Darwinism will determine what is the best model for funding live streaming. Different approaches will be tried by different people, and in the long a few of these approaches will survive. It is not a matter of who should pay.
Everybody can easily justify why someone else should pay. With that philosophy, NOBODY pays! This is the challenge faced by those who do foot the bill for live streaming. I suspect that the tourneys that feature live streaming will have more long run success than the tourneys that lack live streaming. The fact is that everyone benefits from live streaming. All publicity helps to build the game, but it can take a very long time to see the results.
Nobody knows what the future of podcasting will bring, or what direction it might take, but it certainly does have a future, and backgammon needs to be a part of it.
