1) Initially the organizers planned to pay only 2 places so I didn't want to make too drastic a change.

2) The tourney was planned to have a LC or conso if you want to call it that. Some places (at least 4 IMO) need to be payed in that.

3) My proposal to pay 8 and then have 8 of the Sweet 16 losers get one bye into the LC to meet 56 works perfectly.

However, I must agree with you that I'd prefer to run this event without that LC. Now those eliminated are free to finish up masters and other JP brackets and also to enter new JP's or play doubles which can start on the final day for those not in the Elite 8.
