Midboard: an alternate term for "opponent's outer board"

The whole apparatus is a backgammon board so I don't care for using board in a different way.
As "point" (for example) has multiple definitions, so does "board." It refers not only to the entire board, but also to each quadrant: the "inner board," the "outer board." You used it yourself here. So, I don't really understand that as an objection to either "midboard" or "back board."
"Board" also refers to the status of the home board: you can have a strong or weak board (a one-point board is weak, a five-point board is strong).
Quadrant seems more accurate but is longer, so try quad.
It's only one letter shorter than "board," but it's fine with me if it catches on.
