Profiting comes in a couple forms, and I didn't distinguish. There is the monetary aspect and there is the self promotion. I know I am not alone in the belief that your outward interest in Backgammon seems more about personal gain (monetary and self importance) than it is about the promotion of Backgammon itself.

I could contrast you to Arthur Benjamin which I think most would agree makes a lot of contributions to society in variety of fields (and makes money) and is a well respected Backgammon player. He doesn't do it in such away that comes across as self indulgent, and he doesn't need to remind people about how intelligent and important his contributions are.
