In Response To: Ken’s rating proposal - the problem with rebuys (Bob Koca)

Joe + Bob, thanks for your comments. The net is that:

1. I'm correct to impose some cost for a rebuy, but I'm wrong to treat a rebuy as a full reentry ... which would be 1. So, 0 is wrong and 1 is also wrong.

2. Joe speculates that 0.5 might be a quasi-accurate number to use.

3. Bob thinks that for the Las Vegas tournament it should be less than 11/27 which is 0.407.

Would tournaments which use a progressive consolation tip the number even lower than 0.407? I'm inclined to think yes.

All of this underscores my wish that main events not permit rebuys. However, if rebuys continue to be used in main events, then I must change my rating algorithm. I must change my current 1 to something else. What should it be, guys? 0.5, 0.4, 0.3?

Thanks for your feedback.
