money in almost any sport is what drives it in most cases, if its worth doing its worth doing for $. I'm making this statement in the most general and widest sense. Its perhaps the strongest motivational tool to get people off their asses and participate. The potential of winning money is stronger than collecting money(i figured this out on my own many years ago and proven it over and over again).

There are a few exceptions one I know of first hand is bodybuilding, we did that for years with no interest for $$$ (except one guy who makes a couple mil/yr I know) our motivation was health, looks, endorphin's, general sense of well being, and sex appeal-that was the driving force for pumping iron.

Now I'm up to 2 things that drive people are $$$ and sex. Anyone who argues that point should seek professional help. $$$ buy's food and shelter and well you know(if necessary, not my bag).

Points, glory, social status in a group of your peers are a distant 3rd 4th and 5th (in no specific order). Its a nice thought and might work well in certain circles of people, i disagree with the concept that taking $ out of BG is a good plan.

I have almost zero chance to win $ in a BG tourney<---factual statement, however the 1% chance I can is still motivational. If it was just points or ranking and knowing i have no shot, why bother?

are their BG groupies? j/k
