Are we talking about maths or mental arithmetic? Being good at mental arithmetic can help with some decisions, and time required to become or remain good is limited, so no problem.
I am not sure how being a good mathematician would help one's game, and becoming and remaining one takes quite a lot of time and effort, so...
Most of mind sport games requires more than anything else pattern recognition skills and some type of aritmetic / imagination / memory. I don't see the math.
In draughts, we had some world champions that were good (not great) mathematicians. The only example I know of a player both great at the game and mathematics is Mark Podolski (Russian, living in Germany). Grandmaster, unlucky, 2nd in a world championship, genius econometrician (not my field, but according to an econometrics professor who knows his work).
I don't think being great at maths helps any of the mind sport games.
