I'm going to disagree with the bot (if there's next time and I recognize it) playing safe until G is saved for sure, then (and meanwhile) attempt to win THIS game

Why on earth would you choose to make a bad play, knowing what the best play is? The bad play in your position is a worse play because it loses the match more often. Honestly, your goal can't be to lose the match more often? Or to lose gammons less often, even if that means losing the match more often? But that's not even the case here — according to your rollout, the best play won about 8% more single games — and lost about 0.5% fewer gammons!
