If I'm playing in a legal moves event and I see my opponent setting up illegal plays, playing a doublet 5x for example or on a non doublet roll looking at an illegal move, I tell them then and there. Could you sit back, watch them ponder all these illegal plays and waste away their clock time? Sure. That's not exactly in my less than humble opinion the idea behind using clocks and it's surely not the way I'm looking to win a backgammon match.
