Real Backgammon

Same with the obsession with error rates. Sure, they're certainly indicative of skill level, but that's it -- only indicative of what might be anticipated in the match results.
I rather agree that there is too much obsession with error rates, although on the other side of the coin, measuring and tracking my own error rates is an excellent way for me to objectively determine my progress in learning and applying backgammon knowledge. All other measures are so noisy as to be nearly useless. Because I've been making some progress in this area, I know that my learning techniques are working.
This maxim of "error rates are overrated" applies much more readily to world class players -- they will know far more often what the "bot play" is, and when is the right time to deviate from that. For me, not nearly of that caliber, I rarely feel so confident about getting the right play. Since I so often feel as if I am stumbling around in the dark, orienting myself to trying to make the play that the bot will make is only going to help. Shaving a half point off my ER *will* translate to more wins.
