Is there a future for the Giants List?

I think it is fine to have this discussion. But in the end, the people to make the decision to continue or not are the people who are doing to work of putting it together. Inevitably, some will value their work more than others. And that's OK too. There's no need for majority rule. As you point out, the Giants list has not prevented other measurements from being developed and used.

I have always had a different issue with the list than those raised recently. There is too much emphasis on the places far removed from the top. I believe it would be an improvement to:

1. Further limit the voting one way or another to a subset of those eligible today. I don't have a proposal for doing this.

2. Reduce the number of votes cast on each ballot. This is easy. Vote for 16 or 10 or even 5 or something like that rather than 32. That keeps the riff-raff off of most ballots.

I enjoy seeing the ranking of the top 20 or so players. Somewhere after that, the value of the list declines. The process has no chance of accurately distinguishing between (for example) #50 and #60 even if people vote honestly. It would be an improvement to stop trying.
