>> On another subject, I think PR is a very, very strong measure, but somewhat overrated in match play. While hard to quantify, competitiveness, stamina, and attitude are very important too. There are many excellent players in our game that have had very good results, consistently, for many years that do not play with a PR as low as those mentioned in my previous post. Some of them may have been lucky, but many are very good at playing the opponent, keeping a positive attitude, and being tenacious competitors. Another measure that would be nice to have is the OPR (Opponents PR). I would not be surprised if some of these players are able to get their opponents to play more poorly than the top rated PR players do.

100% in agreement here!

Add to that: Comparing PRs between players across different matches is asking for trouble. Some matches are easy, some are difficult, some error-types result in high PR impact, while other doesn't, even though they affect your game winning chances the same. And so on... And it's still "easier to loose" than it is to win :-)

PR is now a better measure than ER was back in the Snowie/Jellyfish days where all moves counted, and the bots had more flaws in their game. But there's still a long way to go.

We should never ignore the simple measurement of "who wins the most tournaments" - even though it is easy to write off with explanations such as "variance", "luck", "short term", blah blah blah... In order to win a tournament, you have to win all your matches (or almost all your matches), including those against non-giant opponents that plays PRs of 8+.
