Ruling for checkers with finger dimples...

Phil's proposal here, is that if your checker's dimples are too curvy, the on-checker rule would not be in effect. To be determined at the start of the game.
My own experience is, that even concave checkers will leave perfectly readable dice positions. Only when a die is siting in a "diamond position" between 4 checkers (if the die is too big compared the checkers) or between one or two checkers and the board (the most likely scenario for a cocked die in the on-checker model), it has to be re-rolled.
Players should sit down and try this a few times, before they reject it.
Keep in mind, that this rule is one that leave a gap from the common leisure players from all over the world (especially middle eastern countries where backgammon is so widespread) to tournament play. A gap that could so easily be bridged without sacrificing any integrity of the game.
