The one oddball team is Memphis which plays in the east.

I assume you meant 'west', which is the conference they belong to. As far as defining "East" vs. "West" dividing line, I'm curious how you did that.

I'm pretty sure that if you order the longitudes of the cities which harbor NBA teams, in fact the 15 easternmost cities' teams make up the Eastern Division. If that's true then you don't need to consider Memphis (ranked 16th in longitude ordered east to west) a geographically eastern team/city, but if you do, what about New Orleans which is only 4 minutes of longitude further West than Memphis (according to Wikipedia)?
